Our Leadership

Inger Ashing is Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Save the Children International - the world´s largest independent organisation working to ensure every child survives, learns and is protected. A respected child rights activist, she set up her own youth organisation at the age of 12, working against racism and violence at county level. She has been associated with Save the Children for more than 25 years.

Previously Inger was Director General at the Swedish Agency against Segregation, a Swedish government agency to reduce segregation and social inequality. She has served as the National Coordinator for Youth Not in Education or Employment, Deputy Director General of the Swedish Agency for Youth and Civil Society and the CEO of the Global Child Forum. Inger is also a member of the Ethics Council at The Swedish Migration ;Agency.

She has been an expert to and board member of several authorities and committees such as the Delegation for Human Rights, the Swedish National Knowledge Centre on Violence against Children, the Delegation for the Employment of Young People and Newly Arrived Migrants, the Swedish Enforcement Authority, the National Board of Institutional Care, and the Monitoring Committee for The European Social Fund.

She served as Chair of ‘Joining Forces’ - an alliance of the six largest child-focused international NGOs, is a Principal for the Steering Committee for Humanitarian Response (SCHR) and was appointed by United Nations Secretary-General as a member of the Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) Movement Lead Group. She is a Founder Director on the Board of Save the Children Global Ventures to leverage new finance models and catalyse private sector investment with the goal of transforming the lives of the world’s most disadvantaged children and their communities.

Angela Ahrendts DBE was most recently Senior Vice President, Apple Retail based in Cupertino, CA. During her five years, she integrated Apple's physical and digital businesses to create a seamless customer journey for over a billion visitors a year. Under her leadership, she redesigned the stores, recrafted the roles for 70,000 employees globally, and reimagined the retail experience with the launch of a transformative educational program focused on coding, music creation and the arts. Prior to Apple, Angela was Chief Executive Officer of Burberry Group plc for nearly nine years in London. She led the 150-year-old British fashion house through a period of phenomenal global growth repositioning Burberry as a global luxury brand. Her unique leadership style and focus on culture, values and purpose tripled the business and quadrupled the share price. During her tenure, she was a member of the UK’s Prime Minister’s Business Advisory Council, and was named Honorary Dame Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire. Before Burberry, Angela spent 25 years in New York serving as Executive Vice President, at LCI Inc., where she oversaw the acquisition and integration of over 25 brands. For nearly eight years preceding, President, Donna Karan International at the height of their global expansion and IPO. Angela is currently on the Board of Ralph Lauren Corporation., Airbnb, Inc., WPP plc, and is Senior Operating Adviser, SKKY Partners. She is also on the non-profit Boards of charity: Water, The HOW Institute for Society; and a member of Paul Polman’s Imagine CEO Circle. In January 2021 she became Chair of the Board, Save the Children International. Angela is also a member of the Global Leadership Council of the Oxford University Saïd Business School and the BritishAmerican Business Advisory Board. Angela has consistently been recognized by Forbes, Fortune and the BBC as a Top 100 Global Executive. In 2010, she was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters and a Bachelor of Arts from her alma mater, Ball State University. In 2019, Angela was honoured with an Indiana Living Legends award.

Claudio Tesauro graduated from the University of Naples in 1987 and obtained a master’s degree in Comparative Law (LLMCJ) at the New York University School of Law. He is a partner of Bonelli Erede Pappalardo and the Head of the Antitrust Department. He focuses on EU and Competition law and is active in both administrative and court proceedings. Claudio also has significant experience in consumer protection and unfair and misleading advertising law. In 2008, he published one of the first papers on the newly introduced Italian discipline on unfair commercial practices and advertising. He received the Top Legal Best Antitrust Lawyer Award in 2011 and won the ILO Award in 2009 and 2011. Claudio is the President of Italian Antitrust Association and a member of the Board of Director of TNT Post Italia. Claudio is Chair of Save the Children Italy. He was elected to the SCA/SCI Board in 2010-2013 and rejoined the Board in 2019

Richard Winter was formerly a partner at PwC. He was Global Assurance Risk & Quality Leader with responsibility for the network's Assurance risk, quality and technical functions. Prior to this, he was on the UK Assurance Executive, and headed the firm's Capital Market, Accounting Advisory and Structuring practice. He also has had audit responsibilities as a partner on a number of FTSE 100 clients. Richard is Vice Chair of Save The Children UK and is also currently acting as interim Board Chair. Richard has experience as a Trustee of a number of charitable organisations and was appointed CBE for voluntary service to International Development through Save the Children and Merlin in the 2017 New Year's honours. He joined the SCA/SCI Board in August 2023, and sits on the Audit & Risk and Finance Committees.

Anne is Non-Executive Director and Chair of Audit Committee at at Coats Plc, SThree Plc and Nyrstar NV. Until 2015 Anne was CFO of BP’s Aviation Fuels business. During her 27 years at BP Anne gained extensive experience of global business, developing markets, risk management, internal control, compliance and strategy development in BP’s aviation, petrochemicals, trading and retail sectors. Anne is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland, having working at KPMG in Ireland and Australia prior to joining BP. Anne is Finance Committee chair.

Deepak Kapoor is an India-based executive who was previously Chairman and CEO of PwC India and founder of the PwC Foundation in India. He is also a registered accountant, company secretary and fraud examiner.  He is Chair of Save the Children India.

Robert Good has more than 10 years’ experience in the sector of humanitarian aid and cooperation assisting non-profit organizations to become more professional in the management of their operations. He has worked closely with the Association of Charitable Funds (ACF) and other organizations on such matters as strategic planning, financial management, mergers, organizational design and people management. Robert has lived in Spain for 25 years and joined the Board of Save the Children Spain as VP Finance in December 2013, becoming Chair in 2016. Prior to entering the non-profit sector, Robert held senior management positions in multinationals in the private sector and has lived and worked in the UK, USA and Italy. Robert today divides his time between his own consultancy work, Save the Children and teaching. Robert joined the SCA/SCI Board in 2019 and is Chair of the Governance Committee.

Jon Lomøy is former Director General of the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation where he held several management positions over the years. Lomøy is also former Director of the Development Cooperation Directorate at OECD. Jon Lomøy has furthermore served as Norwegian Ambassador to Tanzania and Zambia, and been Deputy Director General for the Regional Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, leading the policy work on Norway’s bilateral aid. Jon Lomøy has served as Board member at the Institute of Development Studies at the University of Sussex and on the Board of GFAMT. He is presently Board member at the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Oslo, co-Chair at GLAD (Global Action on Disability) and Board Chair of ATscale. Jon Lomøy holds a Cand. Polit. with a major in human geography. His thesis dealt with rural development and welfare in Kigoma, Tanzania, using child nutrition as a welfare indicator.

Rolake Akinkugbe-Filani is a Nigerian private sector executive focused on innovative infrastructure and funding solutions for Africa’s economies, children and underserved communities.  She has a background in investment banking, development finance, international affairs and the energy sector. 

Larry Kamener is a Senior Adviser in the Melbourne office of the Boston Consulting Group, who founded and led BCG’s global public sector practice and its Centre for Public Impact foundation. He is a founding board member of Teach for Australia (part of the Teach for All Network) and Chair of Save the Children Australia. 

Roy Caple Hernandez has over 30 years’ experience designing and managing public affairs and communications strategy for private, public and non-governmental organisations throughout the Americas. He was CEO of several communications firms in Latin America, and his expertise has focused on advising leaders, CEOs, Executive Committees and management on strategy, reputation, organisational structures, public affairs and communications campaigns, as well as crisis management and corporate responsibility. In addition to Save the Children, Roy has also served on the board of NGOs that focus on HIV awareness and prevention, as well as strengthening education. Roy has been a Board Member for Save the Children in Mexico since 2008, its Vice Chair since 2015, overseeing Governance issues and participating in the Development, Planning, Programs, Governance and Talent committees. Roy joined the SCA/SCI Board in 2018, and he is the designated Child Safeguarding Trustee.

Brad Irwin has served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Welch Foods Inc., a global processor and marketer of juices and jams, since February 2009. Prior to this role, Brad was President, Cadbury Adams North America LLC, the North American confectionery business unit of Cadbury Schweppes plc, from June 2007 through November 2008. From April 2003 until June 2007, Brad was President of the U.S. confectionery business. He served as President of Mott’s Inc., a business unit of Cadbury Schweppes, from May 2000 until April 2003 and from 1980 to 1999, Brad served in various senior capacities for The Procter & Gamble Company. Brad has been a Director of Church & Dwight, a leading consumer packaged goods company, since 2006 and is a member of the Audit Committee of the Board. He has a B.A. in Economics and Political Science from Amherst College. Brad served as a trustee of Save the Children US from 2003 to 2009. He returned to Save the Children’s US Board in 2011 and joined the SCA/SCI Board in 2018.

Lars Heikensten is a Swedish Economist with a PhD from the Stockholm School of Economics. He has a broad professional background having worked in academia as a teacher and researcher, in Government as Director General in the Ministry of Finance and Governor of the Central Bank, and in the private sector as Chief Economist at Handelsbanken. Lars has always had an interest in international affairs and has been the Swedish representative in organizations such as the European Central Bank, Bank of International Settlements, and the International Monetary Fund. He was also the Swedish Member of the European Court of Auditors for five years. Lars has always had an interest in development issues and has written books on the topic. When the Swedish Government set up a board for externally evaluating its foreign aid, he was chosen to be its first Chairman. He has also served on the Board of two NGOs dealing with international youth exchanges and education. Lars' most recent executive position was as CEO of the Nobel Foundation, the organization with overall responsibility for the Nobel Prize. Currently, Lars serves on a number of boards, including as Chairman of The Swedish Fiscal Policy Council. Lars joined the SCA/SCI Boards and the SC Sweden Board in November 2022.

Teresa Mbagaya is a Principal at Imaginable Futures, a global impact investment firm and a venture of The Omidyar Group. Her career has impacted millions through nation-wide initiatives centered on digital education transformation and youth skills development. She was previously the Education Lead for Microsoft in East and Southern Africa, leading the deployment and implementation of learning solutions across 10 countries. As the Head of Econet Education, Teresa drove the development of Zimbabwe’s first digital education platform. Teresa is a 2021 Archbishop Tutu Fellow and a 2019 Obama Foundation Leader. She has been listed as one of 30 Most Promising Young Entrepreneurs in Africa by Forbes and was named on the Choiseul 100 Africa – The Economic Leaders for Tomorrow rankings in 2021 and 2022. Teresa is a Founding Director of Save the Children Global Ventures and serves on the global boards of Save The Children International and Save the Children Association. She also serves on the boards of Generation Kenya, Brink Foundation CIC, and has served on the advisory boards of Village Capital Communities Africa, and the Global Education Platform, under the UN Special Envoy for Global Education.

Peg currently is a Director and former interim CEO for Grantham, Mayo, Van Otterloo & Co. She is also on the Board of Trustees for Save the Children US where she is the Chair of the Finance and Investment Committees. She was a founding partner of Liberty Square Asset Management (1998-2014) and before that a Partner of Grantham, Mayo, Van Otterloo & Co where she led the International Equity division (1985-1996). Peg began her investment career in non-US equities as an analyst for The Commonfund for International Investments. She has also served on the Investment Committee for Partners Healthcare System (2010-2019). She was previously on the Board and Investment committees of several educational institutions including Providence College, The Wheeler School, Friends Academy and Our Sister School. Peg graduated from Providence College with a BS in Psychology and Business Management, and holds a MS in Finance from Fairfield University. Peg resides in New York City and South Dartmouth, MA.
