ASMA, 13, LOVES FOOTBALL, BUT IN MANY VILLAGES GIRLS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO PLAY OUTSIDE

"If I played, I would be told off," Asma says.

Save the Children set up a Socialisation Centre in her village in southern Bangladesh to promote play for all children. Changing attitudes to play has helped children in her community.

"Now big girls play football and no one can scold me," Asma says.

HOW WE ARE HELPING ASMA

The Socialisation Centre helps create an environment in the village where play is accepted and where children are given the opportunity to play and learn in a safe place.

The centre is one of 32 set up by Save the Children in two different areas of Bangladesh where children are also particularly vulnerable to unsafe migration. The centres are part of a project supported by the IKEA Foundation, as part of the Let's Play for Change campaign.

At the Socialisation Centre children are given the opportunity to play and learn. They also have a safe place to stay during the day. Save the Children is addressing the underlying causes behind unsafe migration by raising awareness in the community about the dangers of child migration and the need for play.
